Unemployment Fraud

Now that tax forms are being sent out, many Kansas individuals are receiving fraudulent 1099-G forms for unemployment claims. Victims need to fill out a request on the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) Self-Service Portal and submit a “1099 Protest/Dispute” with the KDOL, which can be found at –

There have been instances of individuals receiving fraudulent forms from other states as well, and the rules established with these other states will need to be followed. This could be particularly cumbersome for those that did receive unemployment assistance during the year, and a review of payment records to verify accuracy of 1099-G reporting should be considered.
